I’ve been doing weekly meal prepping for about the past two years. It started as an effort to save money – my husband and I had just moved to New York and needed to find ways to cut costs. It’s transformed into a cathartic weekly activity that helps keep Sunday Scaries at bay (and still saves us tons of money!)
I searched for blogs, websites, books, and articles with full grocery lists that people use to prep for the week but came up short. I found resources with endless ideas for prepped lunches, but wasn’t able to locate anything that took into account the other meals of the day.
So here I am, ready to publish the weekly list I use to shop and cook. I budget $100 a week for our groceries to provide us with 5 lunches (one per week day for both me and my husband), breakfasts for the week and weekend as much as possible, and 4-5 dinners. We shop at our local farmers market, at Whole Foods, and at Trader Joe’s and rarely surpass our $100 limit.
My recipes are a combination of things I’ve found online, old Blue Apron recipes we liked enough to repeat, passed down family concoctions, and favorites from my goddess Deb at Smitten Kitchen.
